James Bond movies like Thunderball are a great resource here. :D

On a more serious note, I did a lot of spearfishing in the past, but always free diving. I think scuba takes out most of the sport and challenge in spearfishing. So if you are talking about using a scooter to enhance the freediving, it's one thing, if you want to add a scooter on top of scuba it's another.

In any case, if the scooter is properly weighted and decently trimmed, and you're using a tow cord, managing the scooter is a one handed operation, you'd just have to shoot left handed, or alternatively, swap the gun or pole spear from left to right hand when you get where you want to be to shoot.

I'll have to watch that again! It's been a while.

Most of our diving is VB and MHC/Hatt and depths and temps are not the best for a freediving newbie. I plan on slaying lionfish mainly and nailing some bottom dwellers here in the colder green waters off VB.:D

I guess I can carry it like I always do, with my arm through the band.

Here is how I do it.. (btw I have a crotch strap that I clip my scooter onto)

have a 3 ft pole spear that is clipped to a eyebolt on the outside of my homemade zoo keeper (google zookeeper curacao and you will see what I mean) The zoo keeper is connected by 2 eyebolt clips -one to my waist d ring and the other to my shoulder d ring. I unclip the polespear once I see a lion, spear the sucker and then put the spear back in the zookeeper (now along with the lion)

Works flawlessly. just don't forget to clip to the spear to the holder when you're backrolling off the boat or else it will torpedo to the bottom. been there..done that..

How do you guys work this out on a scooter? I am thinking pole spear and lion fish or other bottom dwellers.

First attempt. I still have some tweaking to do but I think it will work?

I am going to stretch some neo across the top with a slit in it to poke the fish into the thing. To detach the fish from the spear I push it to one side and pull. The corner will hold the fish.....hopefully.

Lionfish are to stupid to run.

I have been practicing shutting down/clipping it in and swimming with the DPV clipped off to a shoulder D ring. I can actually swim with it rather easy. I see myself using the dpv to scout around and explore and when I see something, I can shut down, clip off and swim over to take my shot. I will try it out in So Florida in Dec.

I kill all lionfish that I come across but only keep the big ones for dinner.:D
