Come on... They are really well prepared/capable of anything!!

I know a few guys who own a titan because they dive 4-5 times in cold cali water, nitrox only. These guys are hardcore and they DONT invest in expensive regs cause they dont matter the diferences of performance. They are happy with the titan.

SwimJim:
Because they are bottom feeders who suckle off the government and get thier gear at the tax payers expence. They are also too cheap to have thier gear maintainced. Lying on your back a reg should work better not worse.
May I remind you that the folks you call "bottom feeders" are the ones who go out there and at least TRY to preserve what is left of the oceans we love? They clean up after the rest of us. Were it not for people like them, there will be nothing left to for us to dive and enjoy. Did you know, that just during the past 30 years alone, 30 percent of coral reefs have suffered severe damage from bleaching or vanished? Before you jump on those guys and accuse them of unjustifiedly burning tax payers' money, why don't you look at Iraq, for example, where your government is burning not only your tax money, but also your folks, all in one go. The American taxpayers could afford all the scuba equipment ever made to this date and give it to researchers and still would have all the money left needed to fix the school and healthcare mess at the same price of what it costs to pay for only one day of this senseless war. Oh, and just in case: No, I am not a researcher and not affiliated with any entity related to aquatic science.

But apart from that, you are mistaken that regs breathe easier lying on your back. While a well-balanced reg may not breathe noticeably harder, it certainly will not breathe easier. That's because when you lie on your back, the water pressure on your lungs is greater than the water pressure on the reg. To get a breath, your lungs have to overcome this pressure difference, which creates the sensation that the reg breathes slightly harder. It's just like breathing on a snorkel.
