Dear Reefhound,

Sorry about the internet which is usually not a problem. The service we use is Cablemas pretty normal cable. We previously used the phone company but the whole island, or sometimes sections have intermittent problems with both. We complain as loudly as do our neighbors but that is just one of the few things we cannot control in Cozumel, or greater Mexico for example. But I can assure you that "most" of the time it works well and that is why we have 16 routers arrayed around the building. As you probably can ascertain we do EVERYTHING we can do to serve our guests but somethings, like todays weather, we can't do anything about.

PS If getting on line is vital, at anytime we can get you to someplace on the island where you can get on line (the Aldora Divers office is on phone line.

I've stayed at the Aldora Villa dozens of times. Its for serious "reduced nightlife" divers. I would not stay any place else, unless its booked. But Dave, the Wi-Fi has gotten much worse. Not that it was bad before, but it is now. I was in the Courtyard Norte and Wi-fi was hit and miss. Very weak when you were able to get on, although my computer indicated that the signal was strong. It seems like you have more routers....but weaker signal.

I'll have a serious new inquiry done, but if the routers are putting out strong signal, the basic internet signal input must be degraded. I now that even in my home in Texas, with strong signal indicated there are times the internet is slow. I'll gripe some more and do what ever I can. Sorry

I'd check if there is a better way of implementing your internet. I've never seen a place, even a large hotel, that had so many router connections. Typically, it's one router ssid distributed with repeaters and boosters. Maybe there is a bottleneck in the distribution. Either way, one ssid that was distributed would much less of a hassle to connect to than having to connect to different ones depending where you were at and re-enter login credentials for each one.

I don't know much about SCC, but have toured Aldora, the manager is very nice and took time on a rainy day to show us around. A very nice facility with large, comfortable rooms that can be set up various ways to accommodate various sizes of groups.

It is about the same distance to town from Aldora as it is from SCC, pretty close anyway.

no restaurant facilities at Aldora where I think there is at SCC. But all rooms have fridges, microwaves and some kitchenettes at Aldora.

The advantage to SCC is you are closer to the Marine park. The advantage of Aldora is that you have access to the sites that only they go to in the north & on weather permitting days, the "wide side"

Aldora is on my list of dive ops to 'spread the love around' with once we start spending enough time on the island to do such a thing.

Yes, there is just one router and all the rest are just repeaters all with the same access code.

Not really much of an advantage if you're comparing it to some of the far southern all-inclusive resorts. Scuba Club Cozumel boats leave later (8:30am-8:45am) and are considerably slower so it negates them being slightly closer to the marine park unless you're diving something like Villa Blanca.

Aldora boats leave 7:30am and are faster so they will beat Scuba Club Cozumel to any dive site in southern part of marina part by a mile...

Cablemas sucks alot, but that shouldn't effect the wifi signal, just the throughput. Maybe the repeaters are failing?

Didn't they say that they saw a strong signal but connectivity/downloading was very slow?

I dunno. I was confused by it. If I recall correctly, reports are Cablemas sucks more north of town. My understanding is they basically oversold it island wide. My Telmex DSL is a little slow but it works.
