The rumour I heard, the Roatan ferry company pays the Utila ferry owner NOT to service Roatan.

Any way, sailing between the two islands is much more fun...

Listen to UtlGirl. She knows of what she speaks.

Now the real question is why no one runs a ferry between RTB and UTL. Seems like this is a no brainer, but then against logic doesn't always prevail there does it?

Why on earth would they do that?

Like any third world countries, corruption is not very well hidden. In the first world it is corruption exists the same just less obvious and usually only allowed at the highest levels of government.

What is worse on small islands like Utila, Roatan, Kho Tao etc ect is the rampant rumour mongering. Fortunately most people have enough sense to apply a bit of logic and figure out what rumours may have some credibility and which ones don't. This one doesn't.

Actually, there are possible business reasons including a covenent not to compete, creating a captive market/monopoly (and I don't mean the board game) etc..

All the business reseasons aside ... I heard the rumor in reverse. Maybe stories flip once they make the crossing :)

Vern runs a nice trip & if you're not in a hurry, it's an excellent way to enjoy the area!

I flew to the states Saturday from Utila through La Cieba and San Pedro. No problems what so ever. The SP airport has a lot of construction going on, but it does not hinder the traveler.

Check with Roatan Charters about flight information from SP to Roatan....they are very good at this.

Have a nice trip and look at our website: Whale Shark and Oceanic Research center located on Utila, wsorc.com

I fly to Honduras about 4-6 times each year and have been doing this since '97. I carry many missions teams in each year and make a few team trips to the islands each year. Of those, half are connected through SAP. I've had great experiences and not so good experiences. This forum has some really good advice.

My 2 cents:
1. BE FLEXIBLE!!

2. Arrange your air travel with reputable and knowledgeable travel agencies. Aqua Dreams is great!!! They keep up with all of the flight schedule and can arrange your connection from SAP to RTB or UTL.

3. Don't wait to purchase your ticket to fly over to the islands until you get to SAP. MOST of the time the flight is already booked solid. Most flights connect to Le Ceiba, so even if SOSA, Islena or Atlantic do not fly to RTB or UTL, just get to Le Ceiba and you've got more options.

4. Great advise from previous thread, keep up with the ferry schedule (flights to and from the islands may not run b/c of bad weather. The ferries usually still run. Bring something for sea sickness)

5. Don't exchange your money in/or with anyone except the Bank in the airport. Lately there has been loads of counterfeit bills given to travelers from "unauthorized" money exchangers.

6.You can save yourself many of money worries by bringing $1, $5, $10 bills. Wendy's and many other places take dollars. So wait and exchange you money once you've arrived on the islands. Note, your exchange rate will not be as good as what the bank will give you.

7. Finally, the issue of getting from Roatan to Utila has been a problem for many years. The ferry issue is based on demand. Until flights are more frequent to RTB and the need increases for passengers to get to/from RTB and UTL, a regular running ferry service is not feasible.

We're headed back down again next month to SAP. We are then headed to UTL from SAP. We'll do the adventurous journey again. PM me for ore info. . . Happy Bubbles!!!V
