I'm a Fish!
Hey guys - I'm heading to PR (San Juan) at the end of October. Anybody have any suggestions for a dive operator in the area? What's the diving like?

Thanks.

There is no good diving right around San Juan. The best diving in Puerto Rico is from Rincon (2 hr west) to Desecheo Island (45 min. boat ride), or to southwest at La Parquera. The wall diving there is quite good.

It's half decent to go to the east, Culebra Island or Vieques Island. But if you don't have as much time, choose between Rinco/Desecheo, or La Parquera.

Well, the best diving is probably Mona Island, but you'll have to find a dive op that will go there, on a multi-day trip.

The best bio bay in PR is in Vieques Island. You either go and stay a night there, or take a fast cat trip there one evening and come back late the same evening from Farjado (1.25 hr east). We did the fast cat trip with East Wind, wasn't cheap, but was a good trip.

Just got back from PR weekend before last. The wife and I have been to the Fajardo area (NE side of island) several times, and enjoyed it. Fajardo has more amenities for the tourist. We stayed in the La Parquera area this last trip and it was very good. West Divers out of La Parquera is a very professional dive op, and I'd go back and dive with them over several other dive shops.
