I am going to be in San Diego next weekend and hoping to do some diving in the middle of catching some WBC action.

Anyone have any suggestions for me regarding dive outfits around the San Diego marina? I have been having some trouble figuring out where the dive outfits on this forum are really located in relation to everything and need a place near the Sheraton.

Thanks in advance.

Andrew

The closest shops to the Sheraton, ( the one downtown) are probably Aqua Tech on Logan Ave.(619) 237-1800 www.divecenter.com and Dive California in Point Loma (619) 222 0060 www.diveca.com. San Diego Divers Supply at 4004 Sports Arena Blvd. (619) 224-3439 is also pretty close. However, they aren't that close to the diving, which is mostly in La Jolla unless you have a boat. OEX at La Jolla Shores is the closest to the both the shores and La Jolla Cove. Most of the Dive boats leave from Mission Bay, San Diego Divers Supply and Sports Chalet are on the way from downtown. Recent storms have pretty well tanked the visability, but it may improve by the weekend.

Hey Andrew! Welcome to San Diego. If you're lookin' for rides to dive, try Dive Connections International, Dive Bliss or the Lois Ann. They all leave from Mission Bay, but that's only about a 15 to 20 minute drive from the downtown Sheraton. The Dive Bliss is a 6-pack and the other boats accommodate 18 divers or more (although they don't always fill during the winter). Hope you enjoy your stay! :14:

I work on the cliff overlooking La Jolla Shores and from what I see the vis looks pretty good. I'm just a new diver so I could be way off, but it certainly looks a lot better than yesterday or the day before. But I hear it is supposed to rain this weekend again, so hopefully that won't screw things up

If you want to do a shore dive on the 19th, let me know.........

PS. I'm not the chick in my AVA, don't get too happy now.

Just an update, but the vis looks kinda bad so far this morning. I'll keep you updated if I see any major changes

I was in the canyon off the Marine Room last night. Vis was a fair 10-15 below the 50ft thermocline.

Thanks for your help everyone and the offer to shore dive. I ended up trying to get some dives in with Dive Connections but he canceled on me. I guess the visability on Saturday was pretty bad so he didn't want to try on Sunday. It was kind of a bummer but oh well, I guess I will just have to visit sunny San Diego sometime later in the season.
