This was a Columbian plane landing on San Andres, an island off of Nicaragua in the Caribbean Sea.
Apparently another excellent pilot with superb skills~ you tend to find them in Central America. We take a chance whenever we leave the house, so don't think of this as disparaging towards local travel. Stuff happens.
A Boeing 737 crashed and broke into pieces as it was attempting to land on San Andres Island, Colombia. The plane was carrying 121 passengers all but one survived.
Pedro Gallardo, the island’s Governor, said that it was a miracle so many survived the crash.
The passengers were rescued and brought to area hospitals where they are being treated for injuries.
The accident took place in the early hours of the morning and according to Colombian reports, there was a thunderstorm at the time of the accident and it seems the plane was hit by lightning.
San Andres is a small island -6 miles long by 2 miles wide- located in the Caribbean, between Nicaragua and Costa Rica, and it’s a popular international tourist destination.
Airport is closed pending investigation of the crash.
