Today and tomorrow in Great Lakes history, In 1861 the palace steamer Keystone State foundered on Lake Huron with all hands (31+). In the Great Strom of 1913 250 lives were lost including small boaters in Lake St. Clair, when 12 vessels sank with all hands and 19 more were run aground and deemed total losses, 3 remain to this day 101 years later. Three of these ships have never been found. In 1975 the Edmund Fitzgerald took her final plunge in Lake Superior with the loss of her entire crew.

That's 300 lives lost on one date in regional history.
