I look all around to see if there are any animals, I've seen sharks, ocean sunfish, Turtles and all kinds of other fish off in the distance. Many times I've had to point them out to other divers on the hang.

When I'm spearfishing I look even harder :shakehead:

Don't be too hard on us, steve, just because we have a seriously overdeveloped sense of fun. Just because we can be truly enjoying ourselves while doing drills doesn't mean we think *everybody* needs to be as capable of finding such things to be a truly enjoyable way to spend dive time.

We certainly understand that there are divers out there who may have severely impaired senses of enjoyment who can only find fun if it's really, *really* fun*, but do understand that some of us are so fun-sensitive that we can find a gear failure at depth to be quite an enjoyable event (not necessarily *during* the event, but certainly after the event has concluded, some of us are quite enthralled to have been able to have something to deal with in order to expand our perceptions and skills).

Chances are divers on both sides look at the other extreme and think, "You've got to be crazy to think that!" but then again, we're all having fun in a non-human-life-sustaining environment, so we're probably all just a bit odd compared to some logical standard somewhere.

(Oh, and in case it's not patently obvious, some of us also enjoy the fun of word- and thought-play. Seeing a situation from precisely the opposite angle as usual is an enlightening and enjoyable diversion, so don't worry if the concepts in this post seem unusual at first glance -- I'm just toying with the topic in my head in order to more fully understand it from all angles.)

*This sentence ("We certainly understand..." through "...*really* fun") is supposed to be read in a toying, light-hearted manner. If it was read as being mean-spirited, the sense of humor, irony, and self-effacement was missed. In such cases, please resume reading at the beginning of the paragraph after reading at least two entertaining jokes, having a slice of delicious pie, or at least having a good smile that I wrote all this to try to avoid a misinterpretation war, which would certainly not be considered very fun to all but the most pathological on the Net. (The smile can be a result of knowing the irony that I'd write this to try to keep someone from taking this post as mean-spirited while knowing that anyone that unhappy will take this footnote itself as evidence of me being as unhappy as they, which seems illogical in the utmost, since I could probably just have been directly mean if I were so unhappy, and thereby save myself a lot of typing, although the unhappy person would say that not only am I unhappy, but also I must be craving attention that I believe I can only find by composing posts entirely too verbosely. [Of course, they'd have to account for the fact that most of my posts end up with considerable verbosity, and failing that, I win! I'm happy after all! Woo-hoo! :D])

ClayJar, you are PRICELESS!

Did I hear a "WooHoo"?! Now THAT sounds like fun!:D;):D

Well said ClayJar :D

ClayJar buddy,

You're such a Dork! :dork2:

and that's probably why I enjoyed reading your post so much! ;) Well said!

I am so glad most of my dives are not square profiles. I can work my way upslope from maximum depth with stops at any depth I see anything interesting to film, and do my deco swimming to-and-fro at 10-30' depths filming.

When my dives are square profile, I keep a sharp eye out for great white sharks.

Clayjar, you are a credit to all divers dedicated to having fun!

I watch for sharks. and try to keep my mind occupied watching planktonic organisms. Once you realize that most things in the ocean are much smaller than the tip of you finger, you begin to focus on the little stuff much more. Plankton is pretty cool in most places.

On deco, I also do periodic swim and exercise breaks where I try to move all the main joints a little and then swim in big circles for just long enough (maybe a minute)to feel the blood flow in my legs and for my respiration to become deeper. Then I go back to hanging and resting for another 5-7 minutes.
