Hmm... I think that the fact that you're a minor would even moreso make the shop want to reschedule the dives, rather than "force" you into doing a dive you are not prepared for.

Since minors can't enter into binding contracts they really don't have much choice.

To put it simply, if you walk into class and say you have a cold, the Instructor will not make you dive and will reschedule you. Why? Because the liability of making you dive with a cold it to great. They don't want you to be the youngest dive shop owner in history.

lol. i am actually feeling a great deal better already without any use of medicine, i guess my rest/get better day has helped and i should just continue doing what i am doing. I wasnt serious about the 20 yr old guys DOING anything more of what they WOULDNT know what to do when we were diving!?!? they have just gotten their certs.. i am able to take good care of myself...thanks for all the responses!

I took my advanced class with the flu last winter,I wouldnt recommend it.I had equilibrium trouble for 3 weeks along with headaches not to mention reverse blocks are a little scary when you're at 100'.Also I was informed that under pressure you're body will use up the medicine faster,so if its a medicine that make you drowsy and its time released it might interfere with your thinking.now the last part is something I was told and as with anything it may be wrong but I did start feeling dizzy on the ascent at about 90' and it stayed with me to the surface so at the time it seemed very possible

A little true story...

I was doing a dive at Peacock, Waterhole 3 to be exact, with a buddy who was coming up from Orlando. I woke up with a bit of a cold, but didn't think much of it, and I didn't want to cancel since he drove two hours up. Anyway, the Waterhole tunnel is up and down, well, I went up and my sinuses didn't go back down, and it was down to keep going or to turn around. Well, I got them to clear, forcibly, and ended up with blood in my mask and outta the water for a couple weeks.

Bottom line, it ain't worth it, use your best judgement.

I am a new diver and am doing my OW dives this weekend. In my opinion, any dive shop that puts profit over the safety of its customers is one to avoid at all cost. If you are under 18, I would cancel the dive, refuse to pay, and find a dive shop that is interested in the safety of its students. Your health is not something to risk over a little money. You may be extremely excited about diving but that could change if you dive while sick and suffer injuries from it.

Don't push yourself. I hope you make a full recovery by the weekend and have the dive of your life.

Andrew

PS. As a new diver, I am always going to error on the side of caution. I don't think I would take chances even when more experienced. I am quickly falling in love with this hobby/obsession and don't want to see any fellow divers injured or lose their love of this great sport.
