Sorry to say, but I need to stay in touch with customers while on vacation.:no
(1) Is it safe to bring my laptop to FI?
(2) Is the internet there reliable enough to bother?

Thanks.

1) What do you mean by safe?
2) How much bother are you willing to put up with?

It's all a personal decision.

Do I want to expose my laptop to salt air and travel bumps and jars?

A power surge protector might be real smart. Power is iffy and when the generator is used, things can get a little spikey.

They have two (?) PC's that are sometimes unoccupied by children of the staff.

And- it depends on how desperate you are to stay in contact.

Me? When I'm gone, I'm gone.

The 2 computers there were regularly available while I was there in october. I don,t know if you can conect your laptop to the net that way... The internet connexion was fine. But I don't think I would leave a laptop in the room... And the safety deposit boxes are too small for a laptop. Maybe if you have a locking mechanism you can hook it to something in the room. And definetly do a backup of any important info before you go, just in case...

Later!

I took my laptop last October to FI. I take it whenever I travel. I had no problems with it. I always bring a surge protector because after plugging in my laptop and battery charger, there usually isn't room for my hairdryer! J/K:D (only about the hairdryer)

It was nice to log on and zip off an email with photos of the whale shark to my husband who didn't come. It also allowed me to download and view my photos, listen to music, and watch a decent movie on the plane!

I assume no wireless? Did you have to steal one of the connections from the 2 public pc's? I'm going next month and I'm afraid I also will need to be in touch with the office...

No, they had wireless. Not a problem to use, just not real reliable.

Wireless I-net available in the lobby area and had no problem connecting. I too travel w/laptop to dnload pics. Trying to use the 2 lobby computers can be a real hassel - kids mostly - early in the AM ok though.

I also have a cable lock that is specific for laptops that I bring along to discourage theft. I can usually find a place (bed post) to wrap it around and secure my laptop (out of sight) while I'm off diving.

Never a problem anywhere and never on visits to FI
