My husband and I just returned from FI on Saturday. We brought our laptop on the trip (understanding the risks of travel and theft). The first day we hid the laptop in one of our bags but then left it out in plain view the rest of the trip with no problems.

Actually there were quite a few people in the lobby connecting via the wireless network. The connection can be pretty slow (dial-up at best) but it is usable.

During the week we stayed I only heard about one camera being stolen. And that happened between the airport and the resort. Nothing stolen at the resort that I heard while there and there was plenty of expensive cameras, laptops, and video equipment there.

Since I started this thread, I thought I would give a follow up.

As others have said above, they do now have wireless service in the bar area. No charge, no passwords. The connection speed is VERY slow; so don't expect to perform big up/downloads. Obviously late afternoon and early evening its pretty busy. Off hours its not bad.

FI is a very safe place. There were probably 3-5 people using laptops each night. The rooms are kept clean, and nothing of ours was touched, although I kept the laptop out-of-sight when not in the room.

So anyone else who is going and wants to bring a laptop for work or pleasure, you don't need to have any concerns.

I really appreciate this info, also, since I'll be heading down there next month.

Did you post a trip report?
