I'm sure this is old hat to many, but as a diver who has been certified for all of 15 days, it's exciting for me...

SAC rate for final OW certification dive: .72

SAC rate for my 10th dive (done this afternoon): .52

Woohoo!

Awesome! Always good to make improvements!

The more you dive, the better you get . . . and the better you get, the more bottom time you have, which means more practice and more relaxation, which leads to . . . more bottom time!

Congrats! That's a really good improvement for a new diver.

The goal is to get to where you're breathing just as if you were laying on a couch watching TV.
Whatever that may be... don't let those numbers discourage you if they don't drop any more, or someone has a better rate than you.
I do a lot of diving and I wouldn't consider mine great compared to other friends... but then again, we're all physically different too, so mine is pretty good for me.

Thanks for the support, everyone!

I'm hitting the water every chance I get right now, before our lakes here in Minnesota flip back to crazy cold...then I'll have to book trips south. ;-)

Start practicing how to utilize this SAC rate (or SCR --Surface Consumption Rate) on pre-dive gas planning & management, and real-time gas monitoring during your dive. You should know what your SPG is going to read before you even look at it to check, for a particular time interval like 5 or 10 minutes at a particular depth.

It's much easier to perform the above calculations on-the-fly if you convert over and stay with the Metric System. . .
