When we went we took the ferry.
That being said - we dove on St Marteen so we did not have to worry about the 24 hour rule.

Dove with Octopus Diving on the French side - the diving was better that we were lead to believe - not great but good enough.
Also Sea Saba (on Saba) was top notch and I would use them again.

The transfer cost between the airport and ferry was $19 US and we gave a $6 tip for $25 total.

How much was the ferry? And how long did it take?

Saba

See links - there are two ferries.

The time are approximately 2 hours.

Should have been more clear - it's about two hours each way (not round trip).
True, but time is saved. The airport is on the other side of the island and around 30$. So time is saved by the taxi trip. The ferry is right next to the dive boats.

That is true, but virtually all accommodations and the dive shops are in Windwardside, which is as far from the harbor as it is from the airport, so the taxi fare is about the same either way. FWIW, I have flown WinAir between SXM and Saba a dozen times and have never had a problem with luggage being lost, damaged, or delayed. Sea Saba will make any taxi arrangements you need, so you won't have to worry about it whether you take the ferry or WinAir.
