If I am not wrong, then price remains a big isssue, ikelite costs US$ 308 much more than the canon US$ 170.

There are adaptors available to put a 67mm thread on the canon uw case which doesnt cost much

I have never had an ikelite case, but always many canon uw cases, so I am not sure what is best.

What about after many years of diving does ikelite get any rust in the springs? canon did for me after 3 years of lots of diving.

I took canon uw case to depth 50mt ( 150 ft ) and it worked even if knobs and buttons became a little tight

so for this huge difference in price what is best?

Hello,

CANON USA has told me in an email:

"The WP-DC35 underwater housing will allow you to change your shooting modes and all of the settings as well. Unfortunately, you will not be able to set the ring to control your settings like ISO, exposure level, and zoom control."

So there is no way to change uw for the above settings? is it possible with the ikelite case to make these settings uw?

at the end which one is better uw case canon or ikelite?

I can only assume they're talking about the rear ring (dial) and not the front ring, since there is clearly a control for the front ring, and clearly NO control for the rear ring. Unless the photo they've provided does not match the actual housing.

Ikelite is the same way. No control for the back dial, but there is one for the front one.

In general, I prefer Ikelite cases and think they are made better than the housings, and with higher quality components. But I'm not as impressed as I usually am with what I've learned about this particular housing.

Where have you seen these, and how much are they? Have any links?

Plongimage - Bague M67 pour Canon WP-DC35

They're 59 Euros.

It's held in place with two screws. I'm not sure how stable that will be with a heavy wide angle lens attached.

I'm hoping that INON releases an adapter for the Canon housing. I currently have one on my IXUS SD780 housing and it's rock solid.

I seriously doubt those will work with wide angle lenses, macro but not wide angle. The lens would be mounted to far out and would vignette severely as is usually the case with similar adapters. Now, Dyron may have a lens that will work with it, who knows, since that stuff apparently has no North American distributor we can only guess but I am about 90% positive such an adapter will not work with the typical Inon/Epoque/Ikelite 67mm wide angle lens or AD bayonet lenses.

The Canon housings are throwaway wet boxes for the camera that some people have success with using for scuba diving. The Ikelite is an actual underwater housing intended to be used for many years with rebuildable glands and factory support.

Dyron does in fact have a wide angle lens to attach to this mount and they make the following claims:

New adapter DY.ADC35 for Canon WP-DC35:

NO VIGNETTING with DYRON wide angle (DY67WA20 - DY.67WA15) - and macro lenses (DY.UCL67II)

First test in pool last week with really crazy result with WA15 the result under water is 19mm.

This quote is from the Dyron forum here on SB.

I know this stuff is difficult to get hold of, but I live in South Africa and it's a nightmare getting pretty much any of this specialised kit, so for me it's not a deal-breaker.

Let me just add that I don't have any particular preference for the Dyron gear, I'm just providing the info I have at hand. If this was a perfect world then I would get the Fix housing (assuming it has access to both control dials) and be able to use my existing Inon lenses. Unfortunately this is not a perfect world and at the moment it's a case of choosing the "least-bad" option.

That is certainly good news that they have a lens that works with their mount, excellent. Thing is, where do you buy it, are there any sample photographs taken by the system, S90, Dyron lens and adapter and DC35? That would be great to see how it all works together and could be a great option, even test photos in a pool. Thanks for the info.

Found this link, not directly related but possibly of interest:

I'm not sure where to buy it, I've only found a few online shops listing Dyron gear... I'm not going to worry about it until I've seen what all the other players are doing. I'm waiting in eager anticipation for news from FIX and INON (as I'm sure you are)

Regarding test pics - apparently Dyron has taken the exact setup you describe to Egypt and is using it as we speak. There will apparently be some photos available on their website next week. So it's more waiting for now...

Hello NEMROD ,

I interstengly read your post:

"You can make an Inon AD bayonet adapter for 67mm threads by taking an old Tiffen 67mm UV filter and removing the glass. Then look about on Ebait for any Inon AD adapter. Remove the bayonet section from the Inon adapter, those tiny little screws hold it on. Then epoxy the bayonet portion into the Tiffen filter ring. You have to do a little hand shaping, I turned mine a little on a drill press as I milled it. It can be done by hand. Then you get this, here is the Inon 165AD without but you can see the adapter I made in the background "

I need such adaptor , do you know if such adaptor is available on the market? I would like to buy it, not make it myself since I dont think I'll be able to do it :(

Please can anyone tell me if such adaptor is available on the market

thanks

Mario
