Hi gang,

I just spent a very relaxing afternoon at Gilboa and I'm posting to dispell some rumors going around the area. The water temp at the tubes was 48 degrees; the viz today was at least 70 ft. I could see the entire length of the Sikorsky. Now, about the rumors: Gilboa is and has been opened; it is NOT closed as some believe. Mike closed for one day a couple of weeks ago. NO ECOLI EVER GOT INTO THE QUARRY FROM THE FLOOD. Due to some valiant efforts by many of you, the river never got into the quarry. Mike and Jodi said that these rumors are hurting their business big time. If you hear anybody say things like this about the quarry, Mike and Jodi would be very appreciative if you would correct them. Except for left-over sandbags laying about, everything is back to normal; great diving as usual.

Also, I reserved the turn-around area for the Meet and Greet for Sept. 28-29. Hope to see a lot of you there.

Who would spread this crap without confirming it?! I just don't get why some people love to trash Mike. Yea, so he doesn't stroke your ego and runs a tight ship. Get over it!

I'm coming for the M&G and am really looking forward to it. Thanks for reserving the turnaround!

Thanks for setting the record straight Denny.

Well, I'd actually seen something to this effect the week after all of the flooding. (I was down there for my certification dives the weekend before the rain hit. Got lucky with that as it turns out.)

I appreciate the update, especially since some friends and I are planning to head down there next Friday. We'll do our part to help them out by spending some money. :)

I was at Gilboa with a group on Sept. 15th, and we had a great time. Vis ranged anywhere from 20-40 ft, roughly... but it WAS a busy Saturday, and there were lots of divers and classes in the water. ;)

I love Gilboa... I wish I lived closer!

I was also there on the 15th. My first time to visit and I loved the place. I can't wait to go back. Camping was great although a little cold last weekend. Gilboa has my vote for one of the best diving sites around. I hope to be able to return often.

It certainly was unexpectedly cold there last weekend. My drysuit undergarment did double duty. Very nice diving.

I was also there on the 15th... trying out a drysuit for the first time. Perfect weather for that! It was very busy (partly because we had 30 club members from Indy there), I thought I saw a few familiar faces, but I haven't made a MnG yet and haven't met anyone formally. erparamedic, I thought I recognized you (I think my husband bought a drysuit from you online last year... not the one I was trying out, that one didn't fit unfortunately).

Swam through the tubes (I thought the thermometer said 44), and played around the helicopter and plane most of the time. Mike was as business-like as usual, except for one thing... he stopped by our campsite Saturday night (the turnaround) and thanked us for coming. He gave us some info about the big rain, efforts to save the quarry from flood and all of the divers that came out to help sandbag. He said there was 3 feet of water in the parking lot, but prayer and diver intervention helped keep it from being worse. He thanked us again for our loyalty... he sure has had a rough year, but there wasn't even any discussion about cancelling or changing location on our club's annual September Gilboa trip. This place is too amazing to let some incredibly bad luck keep us away. Maybe next time I'll remember to schedule the zipline or rock climbing... you gotta have something to do on the surface interval :)

A group of us will be there this Saturday, and just to prove I ain't skeered of the water, I'll be diving wet at Gilboa for the first time since 1999 (okay... really... I just want something different than the drysuit for a change!) :D

On the deep side? :D Scootering around at 100'? :D:D

I hear he has a good dive buddy that is a certified advanced rescue diver...he'll be ok. 100' or not or with scooter or not.
