Easy solution.... Puke on their pack of coffin nails.
Solves two problems, no more smokes and empties your stomach
Cheers
Fwiw, I enjoy a cigar from time to time and I am a former two pack a day smoker.

 I don't question their right to pollute their lungs but they have no right to pollute mine. Cigarette smoke really messes me up and could even end my diving for the day. Nobody has the right to do that because they are intent on hastening their appointment with the grim Reaper! IMHO there is no more justification for smoking on the average dive boat than there is smoking on any other means of transportation. :duck:

Before smoking was banned in restaurants here in NY, I was dining with a riend, when the guy one table over lit up a huge cigar, and said loudly "There is nothing like a cigar to finish a good meal".

Just as loudly I said, "There is nothing as vile as a stinking cigar to ruin a good meal. It smells like a garbage dump burning in here!"

It got a bit heated after that, and the staff had to intervene.

....

Screenshot_2015-12-06-18-57-21.jpg I am a standard dive flag person myself. And yes I do.this every time we leave the country on a dive vacation. I do get a few odd stares but mostly good comments. Bill

Well this is an old thread, but thanks, I love it. So I am remiss in that I haven't really ever found and rude divers on the once/twice yearly boats I've taken over the years. Maybe just luck. As for SMOKING---Think there was a lengthy thread on boat smoking a long while ago, which was fun (considering I smoke a pipe but would never do it on a boat or anywhere in public that would get me dirty looks--as I received in the early '90s at a pub from folks smoking cigartettes!). So, if smoking is a biggee to you than check with the dive op that they don't allow it. Period. And make your decision. Or stand upwind, or do what suits you best. But thanks, lately SB has been kinda blah.

Thankfully those days are gone here - you cannot smoke in public spaces any more including bars, restaurants, clubs, place of work etc. Not sure how it applies to boats but IIRC, as the boat would be considered the crews place of work, I would reckon it would come under the legislation (although who monitors it would be open to interpretation).

So happy I can enjoy my food and drink without choking on someone else's smoke (I have never and will never smoke unless I'm on fire) and I don't have to strip off as soon as I come in the door like I used to (the smell of smoke from my clothes/hair etc was disgusting). Almost used to need a shower after a night out as well as before!

It would be interesting to know how smoking regulations affect dive boats, and how laws on this may differ from place to place. There are some rare public places where smoking is still permitted. U.S. casinos come to mind.

Just got back from Komodo on Mermaid II liveaboard. I was horrified by not only the number of smokers on the trip, but also that the only places they were NOT allowed to smoke was on the dive deck and in the dining area. As a result , we were hardly ever able to use the lovely outdoor seating area at the rear of the boat. I've passed my comments onto management.
