I am including rip currents in this since Rip currents are rough right now -- 5 people had to be rescued at Dania Beach on Friday on the north side. (that side is un-lifeguarded)

I know you need to swim parallel to the shore if you're caught in a rip -- but it seems like some people don't -- not sure if the ones that had to be rescued were locals or tourists.

"It's almost a permanent rip, until a major storm shifts it around," said Pete Fournier, Dania Beach Ocean Rescue lifeguard, said of the ocean at that beach. "With these winds, rip currents have been bad all week."

i remember OW & AOW around here touched on it at least briefly.

There's pretty much no swimming involved. Let the current take you where it will and then take the waves back in. It's actually fun. The biggest worry is get beaned in the head with a coconut or piece of someones dock.
