:06: I know that this have been discussed before but i'm to have surgery for a tear in the rotator cuff that happened back in April and it has progressively gotten worse. i'm due to go away Dec. 2nd. to T&C....the doc. told me that it will take 6-8 weeks recovery time...i think it will be longer and i really don't want to do the surgery just in case it won't be healed in time. I plan on doing it after the trip. if someone here has had the surgery can you tell me if it heals fast or i'm i safe to wait til after returning from the trip and what do I expect for pain/healing etc. thanks

First, I am not a medical doctor.

Second, I have had the surgery. Although It is not as bad as it was BEFORE the surgery, the shoulder only stops hurting below 80 fsw. :D Of course, I can not keep still. I was trying to use the shoulder about a week after the surgery. My doctor applauded the efforts, while others were clearly alarmed. I dove within about a month or so of the surgery. I have no idea if I had given it proper rest if it would have healed any better. As I remember it, it was about a year before I had sufficient strength to dive without worrying about it.

I'm just afraid that if i have the surgery now..that i won't heal in time and i don't want to mess it up even more when i do dive. i've heard that it does take a long time to heal properly.
