I stayed at Fantasy Island last summer. The area surrounding Fantasy Island is incredibly overfished. The reefs were in great shape but there were literally no fish!

We saw more in one hour snorkeling at the West End than we saw five days of diving at Fantasy Island.

Also, since the boats don't have marine heads they only do one tank at a time. More often than not you're diving right by the hotel and that's not a good thing.

I have to stay the monkeys at the resort are a big hit. It's worthwhile to spend some time watching and observing. They're certainly amazing creatures.

I'm not saying don't go but don't believe all the hype. The diving was average compared to other destinations.

by the way, i did my diving in West End, with West End Divers. i couldn't say enough good things about them with $30 per dive and $10 for 32% EAN.

We're going to Roatan in May (Anthony's Key Resort).

While I haven't been to that location yet, I think you will be fine because we were in a similar boat to you last year. We got certified in a freshwater quarry. Our first dive after certification was the Great Barrier Reef. The divemaster looked at us like we had two heads when we confirmed that yes, GBR was our very first ocean dive. We ended up logging 17 dives on that trip and our skills improved immensely. I recommend going out with a divemaster at least the first few times after certification. In Australia, you actually had to pay extra for a divemaster, but most of the dives were very easy to navigate because the reef is so shallow and the boat would literally moor right on top of it, or right next to it.

Tell Kevin( head of dock), Antonio (head of photoshop), & Eldon(head of IMS) hello from Matt's dad from Louisiana......have very fond memories of there, already missing our old place...

Go to Roatan and Dive. Maybe do an Island tour and go to town on your last day before flying.

Myself and a friend are also going to be at FI for the first time, from April 1 - 8.. We might be diving on the same boat with you...
Here's to meeting new friends... :coke:

Hey that would be great, we arrive on the 28th and will be there until the 6th. Ya just gotta love the free nitrox and free boose. We will be with a group from Michigan.

The temperature in Roatan should be a real shock, the temps here last week were sub zero.

Yes Stormingheaven, go to roatan! You will not often get a kitchen pass from your wife to do a man trip. book it now before she adds any preconditions. I have to take mine to a casino after my man trips!

BBBRRRRRR.. at least it hasn't been that cold here in NM...

Free booze is always good.. I am hoping to get Nitrox certified in the next few weeks so I can take advantage of the Nitrox.

Since you get there before us, dont drink up all the free booze.. LOL... Save some for this poor thirsty Red Head.. LOL
