Roatan temp and bug spray types?

Last a CCV, I got a few bites the first day and then pretty much remained bite free through the rest of the stay. My experience on multiple AKR trips was pretty much the same. Less bug activity up on the hillside (I MUCH preferred hillside to key - and I think a dockside dining room was a horrible idea.).

My next stay on Roatan I'm going to take a wrists to ankles ultralightweight outfit. They make these outfits that are like jogging suits but made of silk or cotton or something that breathes. The diving is sooo worth it but the bites are pretty bad.

I enjoyed my trip to Roatan but the bugs had such a man crush on me that I probably wouldn’t go back. There’s plenty of affordable places I haven’t visited that don’t have nearly as many bugs and also have similar or better diving imo. And I used some hard core bug repellent that’s worked in many different places.

We go for longer stays, usually around 6 weeks, every Feb-March. Avon Skin so soft, or a picaridin bug repellent work fine for me. The bugs dont seem to want to bite the wife, just me. But with a little prep, its no big deal at all. Its funny to me how "someone" seems horrified by how they perceive Roatan compared to everyone else. Those type of people need to stick to Hawaii, or other non 3rd world locations. I have been to several places that are much worse than Roatan, and still enjoyed it. But again, to each his own.

Here now. Not sure what all the hubub is about bugs, but I have not seen one yet, nor had any bites what so ever. Strange... However, with all the rain they had before our arrival, there certainly has been a large amount of trash that has come down out of the rivers. Clearing up now, but yesterday, I wouldn't of believed it had I not seen it for myself, wow.

Did a dive today off NCL (2 tank dive) and while the spots we dove escape me right now NCL used Anthony's Key Resorts for the dive operation. Since it was fairly stormy weather we didn't have to deal with insects. The water temp was over 84 and the visability was around 50'. Due Hurricane Sara there was a lot of runoff impacting the spots. Very helpful staff but no organization of buddy up or the ratio of the DM was 7 to 1.
