Roatan; its all set!!!

Well, we finally did it... Fly into Roatan March 6 and heading out on the 13th! Looking forward to pretty much non-stop diving...

Anyone else joining in on these dates???

You'll be surprised who will jump in. Sometimes, there are bigger scuba clubs showing up, so individuals might not list their names on that forum thread. For every ten registered users on that site daily, there are about 30 more lurkers who just ghost through for info.

When you visit Roatan and stay anywhere other than in heavy concentration of guest houses in the West End, it's pretty tough to hook up with other visitors. It's even rare that a CCV visitor makes contact with an FIBR guest... it's just so hard to decide to "leave home". It is a lot easier for a CCV diver to get to FIBR than the other way around.

Via the internet, the best way to plan a Roatan meet-up is to plan a get-together at a specific restaurant on the island. Say.... Thursday at 7 pm?

Not necessarily...we had a visitor from CCV come over to see us at FIBR on our last trip, and we can just have someone from the FIBR dive shop run us over to CCV in the dive skiff. One of these days you & "herself" will visit CCV at the same time we visit FIBR - then we'll just have to put it to the test!

I actually met an FIBR diver over the PA Wreck and we figured out that fact later here on ScubaBoard. Kind of the backwards way of doing it!

I am pretty sure about that who-visits-who-more thing not only because of observation, but because of ease of access:The CCV Kayaks are stored on the shore a few hundred feet away and directly facing FIBR shore. The FIBR paddle-it-yourselfs are housed about 1/4 mile further away- most of them get used near their docks and the FIBR lagoon.

Any number of CCV guests paddle over to scope out that nice looking FIBR pavilion bar or find out what all the music they are hearing might lead to. Many of our CCV boat dives begin with a slow chug through the FIBR channel, so we have a lot of opportunities to look over FIBR... it begs further exploration!

It's similar to any number of things on Roatan- you can be a few hundred feet away from another guest's resort and never wind up seeing them. It takes some scheduling and perseverance!

Ain't it great? The two best dive resorts on the island lie side-by-side and share the best diving in the Caribbean

We were diving the PA once while staying at CCV and a couple of divers joined us on our trip back up the chain. They were boat diving the PA from some other resort and were following us thinking that we were in their group. Don't know what actually happened to them since they sort of felt out of place when we stood up at the dock!

Point is - You never know who you will meet on the PA!

Have they gotten any new kayaks at FIBR? Last year the ones they had didnt have any seat backs or anything to lean against. Not all that comfy to paddle for a long time. I did spend some time paddling around though. Went over near CCV, then circled FI's island and took a nap onboard the kayak in middle of the lagoon.
