Thanks for the info everyone. Has anyone heard any reason that the ocean equipment could adversely affect the pool with algae or anything else?

No, if the pool is properly conditioned with the appropriate amount of chlorine the chlorine would kill the algae, etc. not to mention that the vast majority of saltwater organisims would not survive long in fresh water

last week i saw a brand new wetsuit that had been in a chlorinated pool for only a trydive and it was half bleached!

all of hubbys pool gear is faded due to the chemicals - he doesnt take his ocean gear into the pool ever

if it was me - i wouldnt do it. get a old bathtub and put it around the side of the house/near the lock up and use fresh water only

cheers

The chlorine in the pool is generally not good for dive gear. It will, at the very least fade the material of BCD's and wetsuits. It will also eat away at rubber parts.

Look at the BCD's of instructors who have old ones verses those that just dive a heck of a lot!

Gosh, am I the only one who read the OP and understood his question?

He did NOT ask if chlorine was good for dive gear.

His question was: Is any gear that has been in the ocean going to DAMAGE to pool in any way?

While I agree with all of the posters for their various answers, I am also curious as to if anything from the SALTWATER is going to damage the pool.

The resort did not say that the GEAR damaged the pool, but specifically that it had been in the ocean.

So, yeah, don't rinse your gear in the pool as it isn't good for the gear. But why isn't gear that has been in the ocean not good for the pool? Hmmm? Anyone?

i can't imagine it being an issue for the pool. in any beach resort people swim in the ocean then jump in the pool all the time with saltwater soaked swimsuits.

I have done many thousands of hours teaching in clorinated pools and salty gear does no damage to the pools water chemistry.

As far as the effect of chlorine on dive gear, yes there is some bleaching, but in my experience, the pool gear lasts pretty much the same time as gear that is used in the sea.

in theorey people are supposed to rinse off, but rarely do.

I bet they had people using the pool as a rinse tank and got fed up.

Obviously you didn't read the whole post because he did also specifically ask if the chlorine could damage his gear!

No, you aren't the only one. Many people have answered the question. Reference the posts that say the chlorine in the pool would kill anything like algae and saltwater critters not being able to live in a chlorinated pool. 5 of the 11 posts before yours directly answered that question.

You are correct. My bad.

And I did not see any replies until Cancun Mark that addressed what I was actually curious about. (and thought was his only question - again, my bad)
