Nov-May I play underwater hockey every Thursday night up in Warwick as a great way to stay wet and active in the winter when diving conditions aren't so inviting.
The sport is played with a mask, fins and snorkel and a weighted metal puck coated in plastic that sits on the bottom of the pool. You have to hold your breath and and swim to the bottom to knock the puck around with a short stick held in one hand. Think of it as an oxygen deprived, upside-down version of water polo.
A couple of weeks ago the Providence Journal did a story on our league:

This story got the attention of Channel 10 in providence, who came and filmed a story on us last night. The story should air Monday night on the 6pm broadcast, assuming they don't move it around. Check it out if you get a chance.
