My husband has found the Fusion with the MK3 alone is not enough for the Sound. I was doing okay, but felt better with a vest underneath. But I also wear a thin polarfleece turtleneck and fleece ski leggings as a base layer.

Does Peter not wear a base layer at all? I know, TMI-I'm just surprised given the reviews on this thing and how warm James thinks it is.

Hmmm. I'm not sure how cold the Sound is - I want to say 44 degrees right now? I spent the day in Lake Tahoe doing some scooter work with the X-View, probabally 50 minutes total in the water, scooter level of work (low) of course. Water was 41 degrees.

I don't wear the Mk3 alone; I wear midweight DuoFold Varitherm top and bottom under it, and a pair of running shorts. Since I haven't installed the drygloves yet, and my left wet glove has a couple of leaks, my left hand is cold, cold, cold. Right hand is cold but ok. Core, arms, legs are hot for the first 30 minutes, then warm for the next 15, and lukewarm thereafter.

As I do with most suits, a bit of air in the feet.

Hope this helps.

All the best, James

I think Peter was wearing an undershirt (cotton) and undershorts when he got so cold. He added a thin layer (silk long johns, I think) for Saturday's dive and was still cold. It's weird, because I'm the one who gets cold under normal circumstances.

With my fleece and a Thinsulate vest and the MK3, I was pretty happy considering water temps of about 44 and an hour long dive with very little swimming.

Yes -- Peter has been VERY cold with the Mk3. The first dive was a "no swim" dive (my SAC went from my norm of 0.6 to 0.46) and I just had cotton underwear. NOT a good decision!!

The second (two) dives were slow dives (haven't checked my SAC rate yet) and I had very lightweight thermal underweat -- they weren't enough but not too bad.

The biggest problem is my hands. I'm using dry gloves over the latex seals BUT I have never had to use straws (or whatever) to get air into my gloves -- so I haven't done that yet. BIG mistake I think.

I'll get it figured out. I do love how the suit feels and how easy it is to control the air bubble.

Mine was installed and works fine so far (one dive).

I took it out and monkey'd with the X last night, I will say that the suit is fast on a scooter (like, ridiculously fast), the MK3 needs a fair amount of weight as compared to my 400 weight thinsulate (bear in mind that I was using a slung aluminum 80, so that might have something to do with it), and the MK3 is ridiculously warm, there was sweat condensed on the inside of the shell at the end of the dive (~30 minutes in 42-44 degree water, just shaking a new scooter owner down).

Overall, I dig the suit. The speed scootering is awesome.

One question: neoprene socks over the shell or under?

Under  Helps against the squeeze

I know it was only announced a couple of days ago, but has anyone seen the Tech skin with the pockets yet??? This sounds like an awesome drysuit... can't wait to see it.
