You can hop into the water for a swim from any of the shore based condos or resorts. They all have docks and/or steps into the water as well as fresh water rinse on exiting. IMO, there is nothing particularly special about Bachelor's Beach area. I've stayed at Buddy Dive, Plaza, Divi and Habitat. All seem to have reasonable security. Never had anything stolen from the room at any of these.

I have stayed at Divi, Buddy (4 times), Caribbean Club and Bamboo Bali. I have never had a problem with security at any of them. Capt. Don's appears to be secure as well.

Sand Dollar has night time security guards patrolling the grounds and they have mutual assistance/shared communication arrangement with the security at Den Leman.

I had a diver go through my stuff that I leave at a private house and steal my dive knife and 3 dive light batteries plus the charger..

Jim...

Hire a guide, Bodyguard anytime you feel uncomfortable, no big Deal tip the security guards where you stay then ask them to watch you and your room at all times. see the sights with the locals act respectful and you won't have problems anywhere. don't flash big money.

The only hint of a problem I've ever had a Bonaire Dive Lodge was Buddy Dive Gear Room. Someone ruffled my bag one night and took a flashlight. I assumed it was a diver going for a night dive. They could have put it back afterwards, but didn't. Glad they now have lockers in the gear room at Buddy's but I personally now haul my bag up to room overnight. Not unique to Bonaire. I've had stuff taken from the gear room at Little Cayman Beach Resort as well.

Diver on diver stuff bugs me more than anything.

That was my feeling too.... Bad enough that you go in my stuff... Ok, You need the batteries to make a night dive or run your strobe... need to use the charger... But, To steal the stuff... Thankfully my wife was flying down 2 weeks later and I was able to have new batteries and a new charger shipped to her in time to have her bring them down.. I think there is a lot more DIVER ON DIVER crime then people what to admit... In all my trips, I have never had anything taken for my truck well diving.. I leave snacks and some bottle water.. Our towels and shirts plus the flip flops... Right out in the open with the windows down and doors un-locked.. And nothing in a bag that would be easy to grab to see if something "GOOD" was inside... I feel safer in Bonaire then every major city in the states...

Jim...

Edit to add... I leave all my big dive gear in the back of the truck the whole trip... Wash it right in the bed of the truck with a hose and hang wet suits on the line over night.. Bring computers, mask and dive lights plus the GoPro in the house...

We stay at Den Laman because of how secure the units are. We stay on the 3rd floor and have always left stuff out on the deck without worry of theft.

On our previous 4 trips we never had anything stolen from our truck while diving, but this past summer we not only had a t-shirt stolen and some mask defog (in addition to having our truck rifled through a couple of times) but we prevented 2 trucks from being prowled when they noticed us at the last minute and drove away.

Although we felt safe 100% of the time we were there (2 weeks), the increased car prowls were annoying.

It's sad that the police and government don't do anything (on the outside at least) to stop this societal menace. It will only hurt tourism.

I've been twice the last two years, have not seen any first hand evidence of any monkey business. I wouldn't leave my camera in the truck, but we've left cash under the floor matts, and the like. Never an issue. We stayed in a condo that was relatively secured (gate at night). Maybe the houses in residential areas would be a different story.
