Hey everyone,

First off, thanks to the experienced Coz posters that continuously provide great insight for those of us planning or first Coz trips.

I've done a bit of reading and searching through the forums to plan a 6 day trip to Coz in October.

I've pinned down our likely dive op and transportation but am having trouble finding the right accommodations and that's where I'm looking for your help.

What we're looking for (ordered based on priority):

2 Bedroom suite or preferably villa within a resort (need a few amenities for those that aren't into 4 dives/day)
Dock for dive op pickup
On the water (preferably beach)
South of town (not required but would be, from my understanding, more convenient for diving)
House reef (last on this list b/c I'm sure it's a pipe dream)

The real trouble has been finding a hotel/resort that has suite's with more than one bedroom. I'm hoping there is something I'm overlooking because we've never found a problem with these kind of accommodations in any of our other diving trips.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I know it's been beat to death but feel free to throw in your favorite dive/photography sites for kicks (I've found already found a few recommendations).

I know the Alegro has 2 bedroom/2 bath suites, living room, wrap around porch, big dinning room table in the living room as well as two couches, tv stereo etc, because we stay in one all the time when we go there. I think they have 4 or 6 of them, not sure. Several have ocean views and r about 70 steps from ocean.
Only problem they may just be available for "first club" members. U would prob have to call the resort.
Cheers
Ps-we love the place. Almost everything u ask but no house reef. Nice beach though.

Think about renting a house on the beach with a dock. My favorite is Villa Debra at Costa del Sol. Its a good sized house with daily maid service and is south of town. There is a pool shared wit other homes in the community and a great beach but no reef. Just google the name of the villa to find the web page. The owners live on the island and are very helpful. Hope this helps, enjoy your trip.

First off I have photo tours of several of the resorts here.

Picasa Web Albums - Larry.

I think the Royal Club at the Grand has suites, and from what I've read the Iberostar has 2 buildings that have suites, but they might be expensive. The buildings are beachfront on the south corner of the property & used to be where the managers lived. Most have adjoining rooms if that helps. Reef Residencias may be an option, it's condos located at the Sabor / Aura location.
There aren't any shore accessible reefs along the southern hotel zone, nor is shore diving because it's within the Marine Park & the rules require divers to have a licensed guide to accompany them.

Just north of the the airport and a 15-20 minute walk to the town square.
Home away from home:
Villa Aldora
You will not be disappointed. Anything within reason, just have to ask.

Perhaps El Cantil . The condos are wonderful. Parking included, beach area, pool, dedicated dive pier (check with your dive op), grocery store easy walk, town also easy walk , which is nice for non diving folks. The location is central, however no worries getting to the Southern sites, the boats will get you to where you need to be in a quick 15 - 20 min ride. Sit back and enjoy the scenery. Regardless of where you stay, have a great time !

I've seen some villas that would fit your needs (on the ocean, shore snorkeling and possibly diving available, in a resort with amenities, pick up dock, 2-bedroom suite or more) but they are located on the North side of town. Few dive ops pick up there, check with yours. Of course, if you have a rental car, you could always drive to the dive op dock but not as convenient as being picked up.

Villa Aldora is awesome, beautiful suites and appartments with kitchen, great quiet ocean-front location a 10 min walk North of town, hammocks and chairs by the water, small pool, great snorkeling and shore diving, boat pick-up right there… However, it is not a resort per se (no restaurant on site or kids club if that's what you're looking for) and is only available if you dive with Aldora.

I have met people who were really happy staying at Paradise condominiums, about 9 km South of town. Here is a link I found on the Internet for one of the units and another on TripAdvisor forum.
It is not a resort, but has a pool and beach and easy walking distance to Playa Uvas beach club, the low key Playa Corona (good snorkeling and relaxing) and Chankanaab park. The Money Bar (great live rock music on week-ends, good drinking/eating spot) is approx. 2 miles away, I think.
A cab to/from town should be around USD 11 one-way.
I don't know if they have a dock on-site, though.

Before you commit to any place to stay, I'd recommand you check with your dive op if they do pick up there (and how much it costs, as some docks charge for pick-up). They might also be able to get you a special deal.

Residencias reef south of town are condos that the owners rent. It is on San Franciso beach. These apparently have kitchens and I have not heard of a restaurant but there could be one. It is not really a resort but has services - housekeeping, in house cooks (extra), pools, etc. If interested, search for residencias reef cozumel in a search engine. There is a wooden pier nearby but check into what properties use it.

Aura Cozumel Grand Resort offers suites and is a bit more upscale for all- inclusives - restaurants, pools, resort emenities, etc. It is also on San francisco beach. Dive Palancar should be the in house shop but check. Probably true for Residencias.

There really is no house reef but most dive sites are located nearby and some 5 minutes by boat. I wouldn't try shore diving these due to currents and boat traffic. There is not much, if any shore diving on the south end hotel zone. There are plenty of threads in this Cozumel SB section about that.

It seems the larger resorts/hotels have "members" sections which they rent and some have been mentioned here. Those are generally larger rooms or suites and offer the resort/hotel services.

There are some houses/villas for rent along the southern section but those are not obviously part of any resort and probably don't have piers.

I noticed recently a new property between town and the properties mentioned above. I can't remember the name but these look like condos but could be for rent - didn't see a pier tho. There are other smaller properties in between but they are not resort type places and piers can be a problem.
