Hello,

I have a qeustion regarding the deep dive specialty.

What are the requirements for this specialty?

Do you got to have advanced open water?
Or is open water enough?

I only have open water and logged 80 dives.

I have signed up for GUE fundamentals course. But dont want to do the Advanced open water course.

So can i do the deep dive specialty with only padi open water? Or do i got to have AOW?

Thanks!

you need to have AOW. But, if you are already booked onto a fundies course, my suggestion would be fundies, followed by a bunch of dives, the doubles primer (if you took fundies in a single), then rec 3 (40m, trimix, and a small amount of deco). Much more sensible approach to 40m dives.

Best advice I've heard in along time, well done rivers!

Student Diver Prerequisites

By the start of the course, a diver must be:

1. Certified as a PADI Adventure Diver or Advanced Open Water Diver or have a qualifying certification from another training organization. In this case, a qualifying certification is defi ned as proof of certification beyond entry level (at least two certifications total) with proof of 20 or more logged dives documenting experience in deep diving and underwater navigation. Verify student diver prerequisite skills and provide remediation as necessary.

2. At least 15 years.

My problem is that after a GUE course i really dont want to do a AOW course.

Sounds a bit stupid to me..

So basically... a diver who has 15 dives and open water and advanced open water can go to a beatiful ship wreck at 28 meters.

But myself with my almost 90 dives in cold dark water and gue fundamentals cant go to 28 meters on vacation?

Sounds a bit strange haha.
But thanks my qeustion is answered ;)

Sorry for half broken english

Yep. It really has everything to do with the dive ops liability and being able to document a proof of a minimal level of training. Not necessarily your own abilities.

As Hawkwood wrote:

- documenting experience in deep diving and underwater navigation. ???

Do you have logged dives that document experience in deep (>18m/60ft) and navigation diving?

If so... there is no need to conduct AOW before enrolling for Deep Diver.

Why do you think you need the Deep course? Is it that your local operators require the card for certain dives?

As Ron says, are you looking for a quick qualification to hit some depth or are you serious about a methodical approach to safe deep diving?

I think after you do fundies the answer might reveal itself.

I have never encountered a recreational dive op that limited depth based on certifications.
