Repaint tank

Any issues / suggestions in terms of repainting a tank???

Just picked up an extra AL80, used. Pretty good shape, but would like to spruce-up the cosmetics.

Didn't want to strip, just go over what's there.

Was going to mask valve & inspection stickers, wipe down with alcohol to degrease, then just use a can of good quality spraypaint, maybe something suited to patio furniture that's kinda tough.

I picked up 2 50's for my daughter, stripped them with a water based stripper then wiped with alcohol to clean up. Primed with rustoleum primer then rustoleum paint. 3 months later the tanks are taking a beating. Wasn't worth the time.

If I did it again I would just find someone that would just remove the paint and leave it that way.

Another idea I had but was lazy was to paint them with auto enamel paint then clear coat but not bake.

Either way both shops I deal with wanted to know the steps I took to paint and one wanted to vis before they would fill.

i've had similar experience as ggora, wasnt worth the effort, and lds dont trust them after, and if you dont do a professional job, ie; spraypaint they think you are trying to hide rust/ damage/etc.,

I thought it was too!! My daughter was really happy with her pink and green tanks. Now she wishes we hadn't painted them.

its not a good idea if it makes little girls cry
