does anyone just rent tanks and weight in Cabo San Lucas?
Chileno and Santa Maria are easy access from the highway and close to where I stay.
I hate to pay for a guided boat dive "all' the time?
going back in April and would like to do at least some diving at a reasonable rate...

Cabo Acuadeportes used to have a shop at Playa Chileno where you *could* just rent tanks & weights with a C-Card for shore diving. Unfortunately, they've closed that location.

If you talk to the shop owners down in town, I'm sure most of them would be willing to rent tanks/weights.

Try http://www.cabowatersports.com/ http://www.mexonline.com/landsend.htm http://www.amigosdelmar.com/ http://www.baja-dive.net/ http://www.scubadivecabo.com/

I have personally used both Land's End & Baja-Dive & have positive experiences. I've heard good things about Amigos Del Mar.

Have fun!!!

You may have to use some leverage with the shop by doing a few dives with them. One of the shops I used actually discouraged shore diving, saying there wasn't any good places. I beg to differ, based on what I've seen posted out here.

yes, we dove with Cabo Acuadeportes last year, but they retired Sept/Oct last year, now living the good life in Cabo...
thanks for the feed back,
I have seen many poor reviews over the last two years regarding Land's End and what was reported as a "cattle car" approach to the diving, seems mostly due to running fast track crowded dives for the cruise line traffic

we've had the same experience, while many areas have pretty rough shore diving conditions fairly often, there are also quite a few good shore dive spots, including Santa Maria and Chileno, very few shops want to rent tanks & weights unless you are also paying for the boat trip (which seems to be their major profit source)
thanks

Amigos del mar will rent tanks for $12 and weights for $5 according to their website. i have dove with them several times but always boat dives. i am going to try shore diving there in September, just have to find a buddy.
