Renting in Egypt or buy and bring my own?

Hi, sorry for the usual question...

new to diving, so I don't possess any special gear (only mask, snorkle and snorkling fins).

I'm going on holiday in Egypt to learn to dive and was wondering what minimum equipment you advise me to bring/buy for the trip (mask, wet suit, fins..).

After the holiday, I'm planning to carry on diving in Qatar where I'm based for the foreseable future!

Re wet suit, would a shorty be better or a more versatile one?

I would say just bring what you own now and hire what you need while in Egypt. Once certified than decided on what gear you want.
