Considering that it was a gear shift nob that was stolen, I seriously wonder if it wasn't other divers picking up a souvenir. Just saying, you really can't assume it's always locals doing the pilfering.

Yes, this is the norm. They instruct you to leave it unlocked with a window down a bit. If you lock it, the thieves smash the windows. All shore dive spot are litter with broken glass from locked vehicles.

Are you kidding?!?!?!? The dive sites parking places are totally littered with broken window glass!! Has been that way for 20 years or more!

I think I remember seeing a broken beer bottle at one of the southern sites this year but other than that I don't remember seeing any window glass.

Are you high on something? If someone shoots at you it's probably for saying stupid stuff like that. It's an inflammatory generalization that's entirely off-topic. Just because you can speak, or type, doesn't mean you should or that it adds value to the world around you. I imagine that in real life you're probably not much more relevant than you appear in your SB avatar. Regardless, you'll probably be safe from our firearms if you stay a few miles on your side of the border.

I've seen broken auto glass several times at Andrea II over the years. Last trip I also saw recent auto glass at Salt Pier, Oil Slick, Jeff Davies, and the southern end of Tolo. I have no idea if this is happening in daylight or at night.

The same "pile" of window glass has been at Andrea I I for the last 6 or 7 years that I know of. At 1000 steps I saw window glass a couple years ago, and it's still lying there.
It is evidence that crimes do happen, but far from evidence of a major problem.

I have not seen much window glass, ever, at any site. And we go to Bonaire at least once a year and have for @ 10 years now.

We had cheap sunglasses stolen from a truck on one SB trip a few years ago, and a friend had a tire stolen @ 15-20 years ago when that sort of theft was more common.

As I said before, go somewhere else, or better yet, stay at home, because Bonaire diving is better with less of you going there anyway.
