There is no need for a taxi to wait. If they go to Mega there are plenty of taxis outside and probably the same at Chedraui. Plus at Mega one person can sit and have a slice of pizza and watch the luggage while the other shops.

Do you really expect someone to wait for an unknown period for you? What if your flight is delayed or cancelled? I have gotten into Cozumel four hours or so later than initially planned due to a plane mechanical issue.

My advice is this: Don't bust your hump trying to stick to a timetable. Get on Island Time as quickly as you can.

Get through Cancun Customs and Immigration when you can (there's no rushing that process) and grab a cab, van, or bus to Playa. Get there when you get there, and catch the next ferry. If you barely miss one, relax, have a beer, look at the water, think about how great it is to be on vacation in Paradise, and catch the next one. When you get to Cozumel, if it's too late to reasonably expect the rental car place to be open, cab it to your hotel and deal with the rent car the next day. If you need to make a stop and shop on the way, do so; the cab will wait.

Bingo.

There are even more at Chedraui. It's the official center of the world as far as Cozumel taxis are concerned.

I emailed and filled out the form on ISIS website to rent a car does Margarita usually get back to you by email, or do I need to call them? Do I need to worry about reserving a car with them? I'm concerned that after flying and riding in cars we are going to be really hungry and have a bunch of luggage to deal with. My wife is getting concerned with all the ground travel from Cancun to Coz it's going to get us in too late and we are going to have issues getting down to our Condo which will have nothing to eat there if we have to go back to town I have no problem with that in the morning. I don't think ISIS will stay open that late we could be as late as 7:30 pm. That's the only bad part about direct flights they always get in late in the afternoon. Last year we were going to go to Coz, but we decided on Florida Keys instead. Diving isn't nearly as good as Coz, but it sure is nice to be in the USA everything is a lot easier. My wife really likes south Florida we are thinking about moving there are getting tired of the south west, and we would be closer to Cozumel and the entire Caribbean.

I will tritto what the above two posters have said. It doesn't matter WHAT insurance you have on your MC/VISA/AMEX etc here. This is NOT the United States and you need to understand LOCAL policies and procedures. They are not obligated to accept your foreign insurance and they WON'T. You will be responsible for any and all damages (which will most likely be inflated if not dealing with a local insurance agent) before you are allowed to leave the country - and good luck getting reimbursed and filing a claim once you get back home.

In the very unfortunate even that you are in an accident, your fault or not - unless you have the LOCAL insurance you can find yourself wasting ALOT of time and money. In the worst case that someone is injured in the accident and you have not taken out the local insurance (FULL COVERAGE) - you can find yourself in jail until the injured party and/or their representative decide how much they are willing to accept to let you out! Flashing around your AMEX will make that price go up exponentially and won't win you any points! I have lived here for 12 years - I cannot emphasize enough how important having LOCAl insurance is worth.

That is one of the MANY reasons I always recommend ISIS. Full insurance is included, no horsing around or nickel and diming you. And if there are any problems., Margarita or one of her staff members will be there on your side to help you through! She has jeeps, VW bugs and nicer 4 door sedans for $45/day insurance INCLUDED!

Please don't try to "beat the system" - you will not win if you are in an accident without local insurance!

Have fun and stay safe!

As far as making the 5:00pm ferry - It's totally possible! If not, there is a 6:00pm ferry so you'll still be here by 7:00 and if you have reservations and make arrangements, any rental agency will make sure you can get a late pick-up - especially Margarita!

I totally agree, but one thing I wanted to point out was the credit card insurance is only for the car your driving it has nothing to do with liability this is confused by many, and if you do rent a car you had better make sure the liability is enough to cover the possibility of someone getting killed. When they include insurance I always ask how much liability are you getting with this rental.

Kell, I can't tell you much about Isis other than everyone who posts about her brags on her. I'm sure she will return your email soon.

Do you have a van lined up for your family from Cancun airport to PDC?

Flying non-stop to CUN looks cheaper and easier than overnight trips into Cozumel, but with the time differences you do arrive later in the day than many. There is a very good restaurant right across from the ferry dock on Coz, and I've had the tricycle porter carry our bags to it so we could eat on arrival after all-day trips to the mainland. Always a backup option.

There is also an air shuttle from Cancun to Cozumel, but I've never done it.

Damn! No porters working at Cozumel airport today, and one of my bags has no wheels - and then there's my number of bags! Well, I got my ticket purchased and my cargo to the van - and waited until he pack 11 of us in like sardines. I was third stop but got out each time to make sure my bags didn't exit early. Talked with a couple who had taken the Cancun to Coz air shuttle, arriving when no other planes were on the ground - and they had a very long wait as the vans usually won't move until totally full. That's a risk with the air shuttle.

I saw the restaurant I tried to mention above: Palmeros I think. Really pretty good even tho it's just across from the ferry dock. I think you'll be fine to just use Chief's van guy above, get to PDC quickly, catch the next ferry, dinner at Palmeros if you want, then on to Mega or condo. And I bet that the nice Isis lady will meet you when and where you ask. :thumb:

Nit alert. Palmeras or Las Palmeras.

The air shuttle leaves at 4pm we land at 3:11pm, so that won't work for us were all setup with the van CVChef recommended they are charging $100 round trip. Still nothing from ISIS by email I guess Ill need to call them.

kell, did you check your spam folder?
