Removing enviro seal on Hog D1

I am making the assumption here that the Hog D1/D1X first stage is “overbalanced” as per Apeks marketing claims for the DST since it is essentially a clone of the Apeks. That being the case I would want to un-overbalanced it in order to use a non balanced second stage.
Is it a simple matter of removing the enviro diaphragm and transfer rod then reinstalling the end cap or are there issues in doing this?
 
Not sure about hog but I did the same with an Apeks DS4 and FSR. I used a US4 end cap other wise there'd be a big empty cavity as the sealed version end cap assembly is much taller. I'll post photos in a bit to make it clearer. But yes, n theory if you removed the transmitter and diaphragm it would no longer be "over balanced", it would just look a bit strange.
