Regulators - Hose Protectors

I believe the OP is talking about the plastic or rubber protectors that cover the transition from the metal fitting to the rubber hose. I use these because they can help prevent the hose kinking at the transition. The colored fabric full length protectors that dive shops love to sell to inexperienced divers are pretty much worthless.

If that's the case then I agree... the transition covers are useful, the full length covers do little outside of color distinctions for different gases/purposes.
