As a new diver I have found that a good reg is key. That is your lifeline after all and each has it's own idiosyncrasy's (free flow, flooding inverted, etc.). I have yet to buy a computer (although I am jonesing to get one) and my confidence level has risen knowing I can use dive planning and my spg/depth gauge along with an RDP to stay in the safety zone.
Good Diving!

Ironically this argues in favor of a computer. A reg you can always rent, a computer maybe or maybe not.

Adam

Or worse yet, renting a computer that was used in the past 24 hours which could gimp your bottom time without you even knowing it!

Well I actually decided to bite the bullet and get both this past week-end. To be honest it was not me that made the decision but my wife. We spent about 3 hours at our LDS and she just felt that it would be best to go ahead and invest in both. So the reality is both sides won on this one. So new computers and regs all around. Yippee for me.

Thanks again for all the opinions. They were greatly appreciated.

Thanks for updating us an congrats on your new purchase! Hope that you and your wife both get to use them soon!

A working regulator is invaluable while a computer is just a conveinience.

That's extremely good news! So, which reg and computer did you get?

Ron

i voted for the reg for the very simple reason already stated above - you can dive without computer but you can't dive without a regulator. a big assumption is that you will be buying the rest of the equipment. If not, then depending on the frequency of your diving i'd get computer or nothing.

Get the reg. You don't really need a computer.
Since the beginning of diving all divers have needed regs. Computers?....... not so much
I own a computer that I almost never use but the regs I use on EVERY dive.....:)

The OP already made the purchase and posted back with an update just a few posts above yours.
