I have heard that some of the pre-Mares Dacor regs are very hard to work on. That might explain things. My LDS sends most regulators out because there is a talented tech here in Houston who does a lot of regulators. The tech's place of business is a one of a kind scuba and gun shop. I went in there to buy a dive knife and he recognized my name when I presented my credit card. Come to think of it, I could use a 10mm autoloader.

Recently I had two sets of Apeks regulators serviced at the LDS where they were purchased.

Prices for EACH set:
$30 labor for 1st stage & 2nd primary
$10 labor for 2nd octo
$37.60 Parts kit AP0241/AA for DST 1st stage
$22.60 Parts kit AP0219/AA for ATX 50 2st stage
$22.60 Parts kit AP0219/AA for ATX 40 2st stage

Prices seem quite steep to me, approx $125 per set. Since only owning equipment for a year this is my first service. Luckily, when I purchased the requlators the LDS offered 2 years free service on Apeks regulators.

I had Michael Rainone service my Apeks TX50 and Poseidon Odin for $100.00-both 1st and 2nd stages and a gauge.

I had to ship them from MN. to FL.

No reason to be held hostage by high LDS shop fees.

Having said the above. I brought in a Cyklon 5000 that I bought off of Ebay. I fully expected it to have no internal parts-like a fake watch. I asked the dive shop manager "How much" and he said "$20.00. It's in perfect shape. I couldn't find anything wrong with it". I was so thankful I almost got down before him and kissed his feet. My wife was with me and while she tolerates my dive expenses she also keeps a mental track of them.

So, it is dependent upon the LDS too.

I just sourced some kits for Apeks regs from Europe (unfortunately I'm not able to share the source (yet), and won't be able to publicly), but first stage kits were around $16 USD, and second stage kits $9.50 USD.
