Just cut to the chase and get yourself one of those genesis gs2000 first stages. It is the only PRODUCTION reg. that is totally sealed off from the water. Sure all those other regs you can BUY seperately the cold water kit, but you take away some of the performance of the 1st stage when you do that.

I think Apeks 1st stages (the ones that come with the TX-100, ATX-200, and TX-50, at least) come standard with the environmental seal, and I don't see why it would take away from the performance of the reg.

Except that, I notice in this forum everyone seems to ALWAYS be talking about Apex regs. I'm not complaining. In fact, I am sold and will be going to Leisure Pro (my LDS -- lucky me!!) to buy one sometime later this month (they are closed for Passover right now).

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone can give me the lowdown on what exactly is the difference between the TX50, TX100 and now the TX200. Is the Tx100 just a titanium version of the TX50? Or are there other differences? And what's new about the TX200 ?

Bottom line, is it worth paying the extra $ for a TX100 or 200, or should I just go with the TX50!

Here you go, right from Apeks. I'm going to order two DS4, ATX50, ATX40 this week. One for me, one for the wife. Here's their response followed by my email.

Dave

Hi Dave,

The only functional difference between the two 2nd stages, is an upgraded heat exchanger on the ATX200, but the generally function of the two, is the same.

Apeks? What's that? I dive with a Scubapro G250 and mk10, and had NEVER had a problem, even in 40 deg. water. In my area, Apeks is pretty well unknown. I never used them myself. In these here parts where the waters are pretty cold, most divers I see dive with some aqualung arctic or something or a scubapro. So to say that the Scubapro is a warm water reg. is incorrect. I have never had difficulty breathing on it nor have I ever had a freeflow at depth in cold waters with it. My cousin dives with a posidon, and was breathing in ice chunks, where I had no troubles.

All new scubapro regs and now retrofitted with thermal insulation systems and the incidence of these regs freezing are few and far now!!

I never once have froze my mark20/d400 and i dive all year round the ice diving this winter was 30 degrees!!

I had a couple of s600/mark 20 freeze up in the second stage do to incorrect mouldings of the second stage body! They were replaced free of charge:)

Was there a product recall on the defective S600 second stages?

Don't worry there was only a couple of instances Scubapro has not recalled the s600 second stage!

There were a few where if you pulled off the exhaust "T" and looked at the moulding under the purge valve these particular units had a strange moulding mark that was raised I beleive in the 12 o'clock position that was letting water in and of course loosing vacum in the second stage and causing freezing:)

They are pretty damn sweet breathing. and have received the highest breathing machine score in the world! I just won't fork out the cash right now the old D400 is still a Porche:D
