I would recommend scubapro preferrably d400 mark 25 combo! lots of performace smooth consistant air.. also if you progress in your diving you will have a reg configures well with(doubles) tek diving and if not than you have one hell of a recreational reg.

I use these in conjunction with poseidon Jetstream and people can say what they want about these but they deliver lots of air they don't break down and best of all they do not FREEZE!!!

Apeks makes a fine regulator although i would worry about warranty on these....The line has been purchaced by aqualung and in my experience getting warranty service from this particular company has been a problem in the past:eek:

Mares have alway's made a smooth consistent, reliable regulator. The downside is the hose routing capability of the first stages are not the best choices for double tank diving:(

Bottom line neither apeks or scubapro are the end all be all of scuba regulators:mean:

I've dove all of them they are all quite nice! Except the aqualung legend it is still new haven't been given one of those yet!

Len:D

The Legend is basically an APEKS... why do you think Aqua Lung bought Apeks??? Hummm...

why does the United States Navy use Apeks...??? Hummm??

Food for thought....

ScubaPro is in my opinion a great reg, but man o man,,,, PRICEY to buy and maintain... everything in them is machined which is cool,,,, but not necessary...

ATX line of Apeks is TERRIFIC.... for the money the ATX50 setup is GREAT...

I haven't actually tried it myself, but apparently Scubapros are not good in cold water, which is what BC has plenty of.

As for the Atomic, they generally aren't so hot in cold water either (no pun intended).

The Mares I couldn't really tell ya about.

The Legend is supposed to be really great, but it's new, which means it hasn't been put through the ringer in the field yet, which means who knows how good it will actually perform.

Apeks rocks. Can't go wrong with that. But go for the TX-100, not the ATX-200. The TX-100 has been around for a long time and has been proven to be a reliable reg; the ATX-200 is new, so who know.

Well, let me clue you in... Minnesota has plenty of cold water also... so cold in fact that it's frozen over right now and people are ice diving... and yes, they're ice diving using Scubapro regs too. Granted, some are made more for cold water diving, but my Mk16/G250HP will be just fine, along with many others.

Just thought I'd update you.

I would like to thank everyone for their valued opinions on all of the regs under my consideration. After speaking with two different local dive shops which carry all the brands (one doesn't carry Atomic, one doesn't carry Mares) , I think I have decided (for now) on the Apeks ATX200!!! Although the Atomic B1 had some very strong voices and votes for it, a close second generally. (This is not taking away from their acknowledgement of the excellent quality of the Aqualung Legend or the Mares Abyss)

This is why...

1. Great reviews. From the board, and the guys at the local dive shops. Both shops had guys drooling over the new ATX200. I got to hold and compare a TX50 vs. an ATX200 (that an instructor owned) and the difference was huge in both weight and size.

2. The lifetime service warrenty and the fact that parts are included in the annual service. I think Atomic and some of the others may do this too. Sold me however.

3. Worldwide travel and service. Apeks seems to be very popular outside my LDS and BC and I think I would feel very confident that service could be expected no matter what country I was in.

4. Price. Although I could get something less expensive, the ATX200 was only $80 more than the TX100 retail. A no brainer as far as I was concerned.

5. Diaphram style. Been told that diaphram is something to consider over piston as less prone to dirt, damage, etc...

6. And did I mention the performance? Esp in cold British Columbia waters. I don't know how much of sites like Rodales is marketing (a lot I suspect) there has to be something to the fantastic reviews the TX100 received and the ATX200 is an improvement of the TX100.

So that is it! That is where I'm at now. I still have a little voice in my head telling me to consider the Atomic B1 but I think after I sleep on it for the weekend the ATX200 will be tatooed on my.... well you know.

Looking forward to more people assuring me I am doing right....

If you get the ATX200, I can't be your friend any more :D

Awesome reg, pretty much goes without saying.

If I had the cash I wouldn't EVEN CONSIDER anything else... especially if you have the cash to buy it through a shop...

EXCELLENT CHOICE :D

Hey Chris,

I do ice diving as well, and I know many people that do it. All I was trying to say is that many of the people up here (Canada) don't like Scubapros because they claim they aren't that great for cold water. Honestly, I couldn't tell you as a scientific fact whether they're right or not. I wasn't trying to diss Scubapro or anything. Everyone's got their own opinion, which in the world of diving seems not to have any solid scientific basis (including my own opinions). Take care.

I'm not sure about the States, but in Canada, parts for Apeks regs are only covered every two years.

Just cut to the chase and get yourself one of those genesis gs2000 first stages. It is the only PRODUCTION reg. that is totally sealed off from the water. Sure all those other regs you can BUY seperately the cold water kit, but you take away some of the performance of the 1st stage when you do that. GS2000 is the BEST 1st stage money can buy. The 2nd stage is standard like the Delta III.
