I am pretty new to diving and just bought my first regulator, octo and gauge. My LDS hooked everything up for me and we went for our first dive this past weekend. That when I noticed few things and I don't know if my regulator was set up correctly.

First, when I attached my regulator to my tank I noticed that my octo hose was the closest to the to me with my primary hose coming off the port directly behind it. Is this correct? The reason I ask is there is very little slack in the hose that connects my primary to my 1st stage. So when diving I can feel the regulator in my mouth pulling to my right side. I also practice doing a regulator recovery, and had a hard time because the hose was so short. Should I ask that the LDS switch the ports on the 1st stage that my primary and octo use, get them to hook up a longer hose for my primary or is this just a case of a new hose not having much give?

Next question, I was always under the impression that my gauges should be on my left side. When I hooked everything up my gauge was on my right side. I don't think it really matters, but my right side has my octo and my gauges on it while my left side has nothing.

Thanks in advance for all the input.

it's all a matter of preference really, but it looks like a bit of a funny setup to me, just go back and ask them to put the hoses where you want them

As for switching primairy and okto that depends on you 1st stage
When you dive a mares mr22 you can not, in most other cases there should not be a problem.

As for your spg just put it on the left side if you wish.

Inorder to understand what is going on.
What type of regulator do you have?

Can you take a pic and post it.

It would help those that wish to lend you a hand.

not trying to be insulting but you said you were new to diving... you sure your not just putting the tank in backwards and having the reg setup follow suit? although if you say it is all on your right side then it probably is set up wrong.... if so you can switch it yourself if you have an allan wrench and a little wrench

Hey all,

Thanks for the replies. I will try to get a pic posted later on today, I'm at work right now.

Kray_Z, I had orginally thought I had things backwards but there were some more experianced divers with me and they said I had everything connected correctly. And when I got home from diving I went through my certification book and doubled checked, it looks like I had connected right. Additionally, if I tried putting the 1st stage on the tank the opposite way the Low Pressure hose would be off my right sholder and I wouldn't be able to connect it to my BC.
