Regulator Hose Length

How long is the standard regulator hose? I tried on all my gear this weekend and my reg hose seemed way too long. I tried everything on without a tank, but pulled the 1st stage back a little to where it would normally sit on the tank. It's a simple fix for an LDS, but I'm just wondering what the average is? Perhaps I should get a tank and try things out that way, but I'd like some numbers first. Thanks in advance for your help!

Too long, huh? I'm going to bet that it's about 4' or so too short...

Hose lengths will vary, you can get them as short as 24" or as long as 8'. The longer hoses are designed to allow 2 divers breathing from the same tank to swim side by side or in a lead trail configuration.

There are lots of opinions but the only one that counts for your gear is yours.

Can you measure it and tell us how long it is? My "standard" regulator hose is 7'

Out of the box, most regulators have a 36" primary and a 40" octo hose.

With that said, I have 5' and 22" for my reg hoses.

They can vary by manufacture.... 27"-32" is common for recreational primary second stage hose lengths. 40" is common for recreational octo hose length.

Divers might opt. to go with longer 7ft. primary second stage hose lengths and short necklaced around the neck 22"-26" alternate second stage hoses.

The current Mares regulator set has an LP hose that is 29 inches long. Mares octo hose is 39 inches long. Most regulator sets are probably similar to this, right out of the box. The regulator I got in 1977 is a Healthways, and it has a 25 inch hose. No octopus on that one.

The Dive Rite dealer in Pompano Beach lets you pick out the length of hoses when you buy a regulator set. They will even help fit you.

Those who want for long hoses typically use five and seven footers. But... what about the diver that measures everything and concludes a 66 inch hose is perfect? How about a 78 inch hose? 48?

Maybe one of you divers knows a supplier that has a variety of sizes, so we can get an exact fit.
