I think it is texdiveguy that has made one out of some sort of rubber tubing (said you can get it at home depot) and ziptied the ends with the ziptie that holds on the mouth peice to the regulator... i thought it was a good idea... especially if your reg hose got caught on something and pulled, you wouldnt have to search too long to recover and in an OOA situation, it would help prevent someone from just ripping it out of your mouth... or they'd still rip in out and kill your neck!

As any dive knows the best place for an octopus is in the triangle between you neck, and the outside of the ribcage. Those rubber tubing things are worn around the neck to keep the octopus (alternate 2nd stage) in the correct position. The alternate 2nd stage comes out of the rubber thing easily so there is no danger of ripping off your neck.

In cavern and other sorts of Tech diving the prefered method is to give the primary 2nd stage to the diver in trouble and the donor starts to breath off the alternate. The primary 2nd doesn't have the rubber thing. Consider that rubber thing as a octopus retainer that positions the octopus in the optimal location just below your mouth.
