We've discussed regretful gear purchases before and have beaten the LDS vs. Net to death, but I was thinking that the Net gives you an opportunity to buy something you've never seen before. You read about it and hear about and think you really want it, but when you open the box, it is not what you thought it would be. That has happened to me many times.

I like Henderson suits and have several. I have been intrigued with the idea of an InstaDry (mostly because I get cold and wanted a dry suit for the 2nd dive). I mentioned this to DH and he bought me one for my birthday on the net. Unfortunately, it is not what I expected. It's kind of rubbery feeling and hard to put on when I'm sweaty. If I had seen it in person, I never would have bought it. I'm wearing it because it was a gift. I didn't want to hurt my hubby's feelings by returning it.

I'm sure others have some regrets from the net.

I have an item right now. A particulary nice item not available locally.

It does not meet the advertised claim and we are engaged in email trouble shooting. Had I been able to buy it locally I would have brought it back, or never left the store with the item.

To date the ethics and response I have experienced online/long distance has been outstanding.

I actually have had nothing but good experiences buying from the NET. Scuba Toys, E-bay and Scubaboard classifieds. I do have to admit I havn't bought a wetsuit over the NET.

My intention of this thread was not one of vendors or experiences - more like "the grass is greener" syndrome. You want something, but you've never actually seen it and when you get it, you are disappointed as it doesn't match your mental image. I've done this with all sorts of things, particularly clothes.

That is precisely my current experience.

What did you order, Pete?

I would perfer not to say. The supplier is working this out in a very honorable way so I'm leaving it in general terms.

If I have any doubt at all over an internet purchase, I won't buy. I've likely missed out on a couple of bargains, but I've also missed out on a fair few disappointments that way too.

I believe the common phrase for this would be "lunch bag let down".

That sinking feeling in your stomach when your first open the packaging of an online purchase, only to find that what your imagination had created or you drasticaly differs from what you see before your eyes.

Very common occurance.

So far I've been lucky, I've yet to experieince this. Knock on wood.....:D

Don't buy anything from maxstudios.com. They're not like BCBG Girls at all even if they are designed by the same person!
