When diving with a pony why not replace your octi with a air2/SS1?

When diving 50 feet or greater I sling a 13FC pony. I have an Air2 and a Sherwood maximus. I tell my buddies (they do not carry a pony) If you need air My primary is all yours (maximus has a longer hose). I would then go to the Air2. The pony is for me in the event I have equipment failure.

I don’t dive an A.I.R. 2 because it adds another point of failure and can be a pain ascending while breathing and venting. Just my choice and I am sure it works extremely well for others.

As a point, when diving without a pony I have an octo. When diving with the pony I don’t use an octo.

If I had an A.I.R. 2 the only time I would need it if my buddies pony failed, his primary failed, and my primary failed to give me air but I still had air in my tank. This requires a great deal of failures at the same time to occur.

Before all of these new inventions we were taught to buddy breath. I could always resort to this skill if needed.

Can you believe divers are not taught Buddy Breathing any more!!!!!!!! Holy Cow.

I don't know how taking your secondary off would seem like a good idea to anyone.

Where do people come up with this stuff...

Probably the same metality that streamlines a diver by using an Octo/Inflater.

... yeah which you wouldn't catch me with either.

I'm curious if the people who are advising their buddy that their pony is for their buddy then count it in their rock bottom calculations... again, it is just very different from how I dive or would ever want to.

Nobody said that. The pony is for an emergency, buddy or yourself. This is not a cave diving thread. N

I can buddy breath, Nemrod. :D makes me feel old though.

I think it should be mandatory.

I didn't realize that calculating how much air is needed to get a diver and his buddy to the surface if a diver has a catastrophic failure is exclusive to cave diving.

Call me crazy but I ensure that I've got enough gas on my back for both my buddy and myself to safely ascend, including safety stops. Pony or no pony.
