Hi all, I'm a new member to ScubaBoard, but have already spent many hours reading posts in the past and want to start by thanking all those of you who take time out to share your personal experiences.

Ok, I'm in the process of buying some regs. I've spent considerable time reading posts, reviews, gear details etc etc and have I'm pleased to say narrowed by selection process down to:

An AquaLung Legend ACD Regular with Aqualung Calypso/Titan Octopus

or/

ScubaPro Mk17 (or 25) /S555 with R190 Octopus

There are heaps of other Regs I could have chosen, but LDS support, COST, aesthetics, COST, specs (need 2 HP for transmitter) and of COST have seen me stick to these models/brands. Anyway, everywhere I look now people are talking about the Legend LX (additional functionality) is the buz, but not too much info about the ACD.

Anyway, final chance to help sway me before I spend $$$, your thoughts on these two models if you please.

Thanks heaps,

Reuben.

i've been looking at the mk17 (and mk11 which is non-sealed version) which is apparently a great 1st stage. everyone has told me to match it to the G250V second stage. your lds should be able to order this with no problem.

just to add another little wrinkle to your decision process.

True, I did spend some time checking out this 2nd stage. It looks like a good reg, but little over my budget (have a fixed amount). And it appears the V version is the one to go for with a revert back to some metal internals from memory....

Thanks for the thoughts...

i totally understand. that's why i'm looking at the mk11. i don't really have a need for the sealed first, so it could help me save few bucks. good luck with your search. i'm sure somebody will know something about the aqualung.

Aqua Lung makes excellent regulators. The Legend is their top of the line.

If you are in a tight budget, you ought to look at the Titan. It is also a great regulator at a lower price. Both regulators have their roots on the venerable Conshelf which has been in production for decades. Many of the parts are still the same (actually the Titan first stage is mechanically identical).

The Mark 25/250 vintage would be an a great choice,if you are going to dive in very cold water the mark 17/250 vintage would be my choice.
I f your budget is tight i would go with the mark 11/s555,i have the mk 11 and is really a great reg for most purposes.
Dont rule out the mk 2/ r395 .
i have talked with people who have this reg below a 100 feet and they say it performs as good as in 20 foot of water.
and you can get one for about 250.00 wow thats preety good.
that regulator has a simple piston design and the r395 is dependble and simple to.
so if you are diving within 120 depth or less why not save some $$

Aqualungs are good regs too,the calypso reg is a simple piston type to.

The legend or apex xtx 50 would be good regs to.

MK10 + BA + G250 (+MK5) = 80$
Used gear sale at my LDS
They are in service as we speak...
