Last time I dove my reg was making a a sound almost every time I inhaled. The sound is very hard to discribe; I would say it was like a buzzing. Anyone have any idea what it could be. I have a aqualung LX Supreme.

Hello BMK,

Try to give a bit more information on the noise:
Sound is only on inhalation or exhalation?
Only underwater or above water too?
Coming from the first stage or second stage?
Has it always made this sound or has it just started?
Has it been recently adjusted?

See this recent thread that you may find helpful.

I had that hapen when I had my regulator servide by a different shop than where I usually go. I went back to my usual shop and the honking dissapeard. It is all in the adjustment of the regulator.

couv,
Well the sound is on inhalation, underwater, from the first stage, just started and I haven't used it since, there had been no adjustments. I hope this is the info you were looking for

BMK,

I do not have an exact parts schematic of your regulator, but I think this one is close enough for government work. Most of the time when a second stage starts buzzing during inhalation it is because there is too much clearance between the lever and the diaphragm allowing the diaphragm to flutter. If it has just started doing this, the most likely cause it the soft seat is wearing in or developing a groove. The first illustration show correct lever height. In the second illustration below ref item 14, that is the soft seat. Item 19 is the hard seat, aka the orifice or crown. Item 9, the lever should rest on item 5 the diaphragm.

to help you determine how serious the buzzing is. On one hand, it may just be an annoyance on the other, it might indicate a loss in performance. To correct it, it will take a bit of servicing. If you take it to the shop it can easily be corrected. If you want to DIY let us know and we will try to talk you through it.

A second stage honk is often the result of the diaphragm being under just a bit of tension from being less than perfectly seated but it is rare for this to occur under water.

Sometimes, if the seat carrier stem and o-ring in the first stage is not lubricated, it can create vibration that then resonates through the LP hose and second stage.
