At any rate, the above recommendations are only for the problem of water getting into the 2nd stage. I'm assuming there are no other problems with it, like free flowing, etc. right?

JahJahwarrior:
All seems good, if I hold the reg in my mouth and inhale, the suction isn't permanent. It's not breathing freely, but apparently I can get some air through it. Dustcap is on and held on tightly.

you can't tell from that. It's only a dust cap.

Put it on a tank, turn the tank off, and try breathing. You should get a good, solid "nothing".

Yeah, that's good advice. Even water can get through a dust cap at times. That's why its called exactly that - a DUST cap. Stick it on a tank :D

I don't have a tank right this moment, it's getting hydroed. I jumped in the pool, dangled the 2nd stage over the edge and tried going underwater and sucking. First try, I thought there was alittle water in there. However, later on (after messing around with some fins I'm borrowing from a mate) I tried again and couldn't feel any water in there. I even tried holding my head upside down...

Maybe I'm just paranoid....Once I get a tank again, I can try diving with it inthe pool to test it out. Could be I let my mouth slip a little onthe mouthpiece or something a few times.

No problems withit freeflowing or anything else at all.

Enough allready, buy, borrow or rent another reg and compare.

well, if its just a little water... wait until you get your tank, or rent one in the interim. So far, it sounds like something a little purging can fix. If all else fails, bring it back to your LDS and explain the problem. Since it just came from there, maybe they can do a back-job on it to check and not charge you for anything.

If you are not satisfied with the regulator after it was serviced, take it back to the serevice provider and discuss/correct the problem.

Old Conshelfs breathe wet if you are upside down or if you duck your head down and look at your feet. I have a metal Calypso with a longer exhaust tee that is pretty bad about it. My newer Conshelf XIV is not that bad but is definitely wetter than my Atomic Z2. If you need a dry breathing reg, get a new one and send that crappy old Conshelf to me where it can get some love. :)

Note, by the way, that a regulator that is breathing just slightly wet in fresh water may well feel like it's *really* wet in salt water. Not exactly sure why, but I've heard from numerous divers that salt water... um... feels? tastes?... wetter than fresh water, and from my experience, I'd have to concur. If it feels like it breathes a little damp in fresh, it may seem rather more wet in salt.

i recently had my mares proton serviced and now i seem to always get a slight bit of water in it, not enough to worry me, but enough to be annoying since it makes me taste the salt water all throughout the dive
