You can use the exact same type in both situations. What sometimes changes is the line, with a thicker line often being used for wreck diving.

I have never seen a reel that is designed specifically for a wreck or a cave (i.e. I think they are the same). However, wreck divers normally use heavier line (#36 braided nylon), due to the greater potential for the line rubbing on sharp edges during the dive. Cave divers normally use lighter line (#24 braided nylon) unless they are laying a permanent main line (i.e. exploration) then they will commonly use heavier line. For cave dives running a line from open water to the main line, #24 is normally used.

The only danger I can see of using a heavier line in a cave is if the heavier line is on your safety or jump spool. In zero visibility, it is a good to have safety/jump spool line feel different that the main line so you can tell them apart without being able to see them.

As for the primary reel, it doesn't make much difference since on the exit, when you get to your primary reel and are able to identify it in zero visibility, you will get a warm fuzzy feeling when you are expecting #36 nylon line, and you feel it. I can't imagine a scenario where a diver could get confused on the exit with respect to the heavier line and do something like head back into the cave.

Please get proper training before going into a cave! We don't need any more cave fatalities from untrained divers. Even if you had taken advanced wreck penetration training, this is NOT enough for cave!!!!
