Does having a wide angle lense on the camera affect the function of the camera ever? Or does it simply just mean that your photos cover more?

Matt

I've been using a mini for 3 weeks and taken it on 6 dives. Dittos on the easy handling comments. I've put the mini on a retractor off a shoulder d-ring on my bcd and just pull it out to grab a shot. I've also shot 5 short .avi 's and they came out fine... including sound.

I've been tesing how to make the easiest and best use of the mini as well as discover it's limits. It's been shore diving, boat diving, deep diving, wreck diving and taken down to 100f. All of these dives have been in typical Southern California vis (backscatter alert). You can see examples of my experiments at http://www.flickr.com/photos/jgeldin/

I just got the add-on wide angle and will be using it this Saturday at Casino Pt. in Catalina at the Gold Star Dive fundraiser to help support the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Avalon S.T.A.R. Program (Success Through Awareness and Resistance) and the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber. The event is hosted by the Avalon Sheriff's station. (Shameless plug). I'll post those pictures next week.

From playing around out of the water it looks like the WA lens expands the area that can be seen in the frame. It also allows you to focus closer to the objects you are photoraphing and keep the background in focus, too. An interesting wrinkle is that the WA lens needs to be attached once the mini is in the water or, if the lens is on when you enter, removed and re-installed "to get the best results" (SeaLife).

This is pretty standard for all wet mate type lenses. Basically it helps ensure that you don't get air trapped between the two lenses - that will look like a big bubble or a line across your photos! Always double check by looking through the lens after attaching as it can be a pain when you get home to find out all of your images have this funky extra feature :)

This has been helpful. At least I know my new ReefMaster Mini takes nice shoots. All I have to do is get in the water and see what happens. I guess I cant blame the camera if the shots are bad.
