Reducing the Odds of a Snark Attack

It is extremely likely for a person to be attacked by a snark on ScubaBoard, but snark attacks are rarely life-threatening. However, if you are thinking of posting on any of the forums, and if you are concerned about snarks, there are a number of steps you can take to reduce your chances of being attacked:
  • Always post in groups since snarks are more likely to attack a solitary individual. Get a group of friends or followers to hit the "Like" button on your posts and surround your post with supporting posts. Should a snark attack you, your friends can make mincemeat of the snark by hitting back.
  • Do not wander too far into the thread. An individual places himself or herself at increased risk of snark attack without assistance after page 3 or post #30. Snarks in need of a target will delve deeper into the thread while others have lost interest in the topic and moved to another thread or another social media site.
  • Avoid posting on the board during darkness or twilight hours when snarks are most active due to alcohol consumption typically not consumed in large amounts during daylight.
  • Do not leave yourself open to wounds - a snark's ability to smell blood is acute.
  • Posting anything new is discouraged. Enlightening posts or innovative ideas will catch the attention of a snark like a sheen of fish scales.
  • Avoid forums with known snarks or where snarks tend to lurk. Forums with single-sentence remarks are good indicators of such activity.
  • While there are myths and anecdotes about moderators saving members from snark attacks, the presence of moderators does not indicate the absence of snarks - both often eat the same foods and moderators may often be snarky.
  • Use extra caution when the answer to any question is murky.
  • Remember that snarks see contrast particularly well. Uneven posting history and bright answers may draw a snark's attention.
  • Refrain from excess posting, as this may draw a snark's attention.
  • Do not allow posts about anything having to do with water: these posts may draw a snark’s attention.
  • Be careful when posting in forums between welcoming new members and the classifieds since forums in between are favorite hangouts for snarks.
  • Post only in areas where new members say hello.
  • Do not enter the board if snarks are known to be present, and get off the board if snarks are sighted.
  • Never harass a snark!

This is problematic on international forums. Snark packs act in tag teams so they never sleep!

Seriously, here lies some sound advice.

Snarks smell fear. The best way to survive a snark attack is to not fear them.

Very Important: Don't chum the water with human or animal waste that snarks like. I think they may be very partial to bull and horse manure.

Make sure to carefully bury dead horses. Snarks are known to be attracted to them, and beat them senseless.
